One ugly change of fortune for Sony

We've heard about overheating issues before, but this seems to go beyond the general phenomenon, as a Playstation console has just set on fire an apartment complex. This is not our lucky guess, but the firefighters' statement and it turns out that the Xbox 360 is not the only console causing trouble.

Well, I'm guessing that the gaming system was a PS3, but who knows, as a minor malfunction can trigger a fire even if you're using the average PSX. The fire's worth $10.000 in damage done mostly by the smoke and heat. This is exactly what Sony needed right now, as they've just been unofficially labeled as troublemakers for the past few weeks. First, one of their employees edited Halo 3's Wikipedia page, badmouthing the game, then the PSP's launch was announced and everyone went crazy about the fact that the TV-out cable won't be included in the package.

That's not all, as a couple of days later, one of the SCEA representatives banned all types of homebrewing chit-chit from the official Sony forum and today we've got word about the PSP Slim's firmware being cracked. To top all these scandals, the PS3 continues to lag behind the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii in the sales department. The only good Sony-related news I've heard recently was that we'll probably see a 40GB cheap PS3 being launched, sooner or later.

Come on Sony, chase away that bad karma and get back on track... All you need is Heavenly Sword, God of War III and Final Fantasy Versus XIII to get things going again. Oh and please don't provide us with another "Red Ring of Death" and solve those overheating problems...It would be a pity to see the Playstation brand decaying after all these years of quality games and top notch console action.
