During the VGA 2012 ceremony, a trailer was shown for a new title called The Phantom Pain. This is set to be developed by a new Swedish studio called Moby Dick, led by one Joakim Mogren, and analysis from fans seems to clearly indicate that the game is a new installment in the Metal Gear Solid series.

Elements that the fans have flagged as proof include the name of the director, which is an anagram for Kojima, the looks of the main character, the presence of imagery that was traditionally associated with Metal Gear Solid and the use of the new Fox Engine for the creation of the trailer.

It’s not clear why Kojima and his team are choosing to try and position the Phantom Pain as a project separate from Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, while still allowing true fans to understand the true nature of the new project.
