Just in case you wish to buy something out of the ordinary, it seems that there's always something new out there. And since the IT industry never runs out of new ideas, the only problem remains the actual implementation. For example, HIPE PC offers what seems to be the first
"dual" PC. The term "dual" does not however refer to the fact that two PCs are glued together in one big case. Actually it's a case of PC in PC here.
The dual PC combines a gaming and a media center system in one huge case. The "Daish-XT" looks pretty much like a server tower but inside it houses a second media-center PC called "Shoto," which comes with its own components and 7" LCD screen.
The "big" system is powered by Corsair Dominator memory sticks, a Geforce 8800 GTS card, two 150 GB WD Raptor HDDs and Intel's Core 2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core CPU. Price tag (without the monitor) is about $6400. This price includes the mini "Shoto" system. This second PC that is mounted inside the big case is powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo T-series mobile CPU coupled with DDR2 memory. The system has a dedicated hard drive and its own DVD-Writer. The dual configuration sells for about $11,100.
Although the idea of housing a PC inside another seems rather weird, you can find several reasons to do just that. First, since the two PCs are completely independent, you'll be able to use the big one for gaming and at the same time check your mail on the little one. The "Shoto" can also be used to house media server applications or run multimedia related tasks.
