THQ unveiled at Gamescom 2010 the PC version of its upcoming first person shooter Homefront. It is developed by Digital Extremes and will contain dedicated servers and clan support. The console version is still in Kaos Studios' hands.

Homefront is THQ's first appearance in the military first person shooter war that has been going on this generation of consoles.

The company is pulling no punches for the PC version, as it has hired Canadian-based studio Digital Extremes to bring the game to the platform in the best form possible.

The outfit has worked with Epic on the Unreal, Unreal Tournament and Unreal Tournament 2003/2004 and was also behind the PlayStation 3 version of BioShock, as well as the critically acclaimed multiplayer component of BioShock 2.

“Digital Extremes has a superb track record in PC development,” said David Votypka, general manager of Kaos Studios at THQ.

“While the team here at Kaos is completely focused on the core Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Homefront, our partnership with Digital Extremes means that PC gamers can look forward to a version of the game tailored to the demands of the discerning PC gamer,” he added.

Frank De Lise, executive producer at THQ also said that,“We’re building on the great game that Kaos Studios is making and enhancing it with specific PC relevant features.”

He continued to comment that, “PC players will be able to set up and host Homefront dedicated servers and enjoy additional community features including clan support. We believe the core PC first-person-shooter fan will really appreciate these features, which are becoming increasingly rare.”

Homefront's narrative allows players to fill in the shoes of resistance fighters in 2027 who are trying to bring down the Greater Korean Republic occupation of the United States of America.

The title will be released at the beginning of 2011 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC.
