Developer Ready at Dawn has released a fresh video for the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive cinematic action-adventure video game The Order: 1886, offering us a look at some of the in-game weaponry that we'll be fighting evil with.

The new information comes from a post on the PlayStation Blog, where Ru Weerasuriya, chief executive officer at Ready at Dawn and creative director of The Order: 1886, offers gamers a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming title.

The game takes place in an alternate history, with the action being set centuries after mankind started exhibiting strange mutations that transformed some of the population into bloodthirsty monsters of myth and legend.

Although the beasts are fewer in number, they are far more ferocious than any band of men, and as such, humanity has been living in fear for ages.

The protectors of man, brave knights who have chosen to stand up to the increasing threat, finally have an upper hand thanks to new breakthrough in technology, and the playing field is now level at last.

"With a growing number of weapons manufacturers around the world and Nikola Tesla as their chief scientist, the Knights of the Order have a vast array of armament at their disposal. The inclusion of Tesla into the game allowed us to ground many of the technological advancement we wanted to add to our history in reality."

"We used weapons based on existing technology in the Victorian-Era but also created others that stretched the realm of what was possible at the time," Weerasuriya writes.

In the game, the industrial revolution is the result of the war between Humans and Half-Breeds, with the conflict being a boon for technical advancements in weapon design. The main focus of inventors in the time period is improving the existing weaponry and introducing new, unconventional items to the fight, in order to provide the Knights of The Order with the upper hand.

In-game weapons are based on real designs

The Carbine, the Coach Gun and the Maschinenpistole are commonplace in the game, representing the technology of the era, but the developers took things one step beyond and saw what else could have been invented at the time.

As such, the Arc Gun makes use of electricity, and the Aluminum Iron Oxide and Thermite Rifle make use of different kind of ammunition, offering a way to use real materials and technologies available during the Industrial Revolution in order to create new guns that could have existed during that era.

Furthermore, the team's dedication to immersion goes as far as having specific guidelines when it comes to the design of the weapons, concerning assembly, materials used and craftsmanship, grounded in the real-world science and technology of the 1880s.

The PlayStation 4 exclusive action adventure video game is set for release on February 20, 2015.
