Ready at Dawn, the developer behind upcoming PS4 exclusive The Order: 1886, has confirmed that it wants to show off the PS4's power with the cinematic third-person shooter and that a sequel might add multiplayer on top of the existing story.

The Order: 1886 was revealed to the world at E3 2012 last year and in recent months it's received quite a few new details, not to mention a rather unfortunate delay, which now means that PS4 owners will be able to get their hands on the shooter only in February of next year.

Even so, developer Ready at Dawn is confident that the wait is worth it, especially since one of the main goals of the new title is to show off the power of the PS4.

"This was the onus at the very beginning, was to showcase what the PlayStation 4 could do through this game; visually, graphically, technologically," Co-Founder Ru Weerasuriya told GameSpot. "This was really the drive behind creating this."

The developer also put into perspective the opening moments in the game's development, saying that, while the whole studio explored things like a cooperative mode or a competitive multiplayer, it ultimately decided to make sure that the first installment in the possible franchise delivers a great single-player story.

"It's a single-player game. I'll tell you the truth, when we started working on this IP, we explored every single avenue [and thought] what do we want to do for this game to come out for the first time?"

"As much as we had that conversation, very early on we decided to make this a single-player game. Let's see what happens in the future, but this game is going to be a linear, story-driven game," he added.

The other Ready at Dawn Co-Founder, Andrea Pessino, also mentioned that the delay wasn't that big of a deal and that the game would be much better with the improvements planned for the extra polishing time.

"A very wise friend of ours once said, once the game is on the shelf--or in this case ready to download--all you can make is excuses for the things you didn't get to do. We had a certain vision in mind and we wanted to make sure we had enough time to deliver on the vision that the gamers were expecting," he said.

The Order: 1886 is set to debut on February 20, 2015, exclusively for the PlayStation 4, and you can expect to hear much more about it in the following months.
