The Order: 1886 is one of the most intriguing video games that Sony is preparing for launch on its next-gen home console and the development team at Ready at Dawn says that it plans to make sure that player choice is important to the experience despite the fact that only one ending actually exists.

Speaking to Gamingbolt, Marc Turndorf, one of the developers working on the title, states that, “It’s a story driven linear experience. There are some branches here and there and different ways to do things, but we’re trying to tell one story with one compelling ending.”

It’s unclear whether the choices that the gamer will be able to make will only affect his own character or whether they are designed to have an impact on the other characters and the larger game world, despite the fact that their ending does not change.

The linearity of the title is necessary because Ready at Dawn is aiming to make The Order: 1886 a very cinematic experience, which means that it would need a lot more resources for the development process if it created complex branching paths.

Marc Turndorf adds, “We think it’s gonna blow players away with the seamless integration of filmic and gameplay in one awesome package.”

Ready at Dawn has already explained that gamers will find it difficult to figure exactly when the game moves from a cutscene to a battle sequence because the studio is aiming to offer the same level of graphics fidelity for both.

The Order: 1886 will take gamers to a version of Victorian London where he becomes a capable knight who is fighting a number of creatures that mix both human and monster DNA.

As Galahad, the player will have to work together with other Knights of the Round Table who are using both mystical means and new tech in order to turn the tide of the war that has raged for centuries.

Ready at Dawn says that it wants to deliver a combat system that is suited for both long-range firefights, focused on cover and solid aiming on the part of the player, and for up close and personal melee engagements.

Sony also believes that the game has both a deep universe and a good selection of gameplay mechanics and is making it one of the main launches for its next-gen console.

The Order 1886 releases in February 2015, exclusively on the PlayStation 4.
