Onion's teenage athlete reports hints at schools' tolerant attitude towards acts of rape

Two years ago, the Onion satire newspaper published a story about a high-school basketball player caught in a rape scandal, but still trying to move on with his life, Gawker reveals.

The story is incredibly similar to that of two football players from Steubenville convicted of rape yesterday, as I previously reported.

Also yesterday, a Breaking News report by CNN painted Ma'Lik Richmond and Trent Mays as the victims here, two promising young boys with their lives ruined.

As in the case of CNN's Candy Crowley and Poppy Harlow, the Onion reporter appears to support the assailant and shows no compassion for the victim, even stressing at several occasions how he, the attacker, has managed to move past the rape trauma and regain confidence to play basketball again.

Do you believe that the Onion piece outlines a pattern in how America treats high-school rape? Don't forget to leave your opinion on the Onion post.
