The development team at BioWare working on Star Wars: The Old Republic says that the two concepts that will power the newly announced Galactic Starfighter expansion will be free flight combat and extensive customization.

Michael Backus, the lead designer working on the new concept, states in an official blog that his team is building a scalable system that can support many future ideas.

Initially, players will only be able to battle in small craft, but Star Destroyers and Force users might be included if the new mode is interesting for players.

Backus says that gamers have asked for “the experience of customizing their own Starfighter and pitting your skills against other pilots in epic Star Wars environments; the sound of that familiar music kicking in as you destroy an enemy’s objective.”

Galactic Starfighter is set to offer battles that involve two teams of 12 pilots and will be launched starting with early December of this year.
