The Old Reader goes back on its word and is now announcing it will remain open to the public, just a few days after saying it was closing down for users who joined after it was announced that Google Reader was closing down.

Last week, the popular RSS service said it was going to stop working for most of its users since they wanted to be able to offer the same quality product to less users rather than be unable to keep everything working properly.

“We feel great responsibility for the project. We’d rather provide a smooth and awesome experience for 10 000 users than a crappy one for 420 000,” they said at the end of July.

Now, The Old Reader will remain open to the public, thanks to a bigger team and more resources provided by a US company.

It remains unknown exactly who this “corporate entity” is, but it seems it wants to help the RSS reader grow and improve over the coming years.

The message is signed by Ben Wolf, who says the team will continue to include the two founders of the online tool, Dmitry Krasnoukhov and Elena Bulygina.

“The Old Reader is going to retain all of its functionality and remain open to the public. Not only that, we’re going to do everything in our power to grow the user base which will only accentuate the things that make this application special,” the message says.

It seems that The Old Reader will be moving to a new hosting facility in the US and this will require some downtime. However, this also means there will be a lot more servers, a faster network, and increased stability.

The message also states that over the next few weeks more information about the new team behind The Old Reader will be made public, along with the improvements they want to bring to the application.
