The safety of one's data is a very important thing nowadays, especially if we're talking about, let's say, large quantities of more or less confidential company information. And that's the reason why one of the most important developers of storage solutions, namely Imation, has developed a very interesting comprehensive storage system, dubbed Oddisey, which answers all the safety requirements you might ask for and more.

The most important function of the Imation Odyssey removable hard disk storage system is that of back-up for large corporate networks. That's why it uses a rugged and tough disk cartridge which works much in the same way as a tape drive, while featuring the advantages in terms of performance offered by a disk-to-disk system. The Odyssey consists of 2 different parts, namely a removable hard disk cartridge, which supports disk capacities ranging from 40GB to 120GB, and a docking station compatible with most current disk capacities. Moreover, the docking station is scalable for future capacities, which means that this solution can be used for quite a long time.

The Oddisey also offers some pretty interesting safety features, as for example shock protection (the hard disk cartridges are capable of withstanding a 900 G-force shock), as well as the EMC Retrospect software, which offers password protection and 256-AES encryption to make your data more secure.

Here is a list of the main specifications offered by the Imation Odyssey removable hard disk storage system:

- docking station dimensions: 199 mm x 133 mm x 52 mm; - docking station weight: 858 grams; - HDD cartridge dimensions: 126.5 mm x 81.5 mm x 21.2 mm; - HDD cartridge weight: 160 grams; - host interface: USB 2.0, USB 1.1, up to 36 Mb/s transfer speeds; - cartridge features protection against ESD up to 5000 volts; - cartridge features mechanical lock for switching the device to read-only mode.

The Odyssey is available in 3 storage variants, 40GB ($249), 80GB, ($299), and 120GB ($349), and could represent a very good investment, especially for those start-ups who are just now establishing their company networks.
