Over three million users

The Opera Software company has announced that the users' interest in the add-free version of the Opera browser is still high. Since the free version of the browser was launched, over three million users have downloaded it.

This free version has recorded four times more downloads than any of the previous ones, according to the company's statistics.

The Opera officials said that the majority of Internet surfers who have downloaded the new Opera are ex-Internet Explorer users, who are in need of a safer alternative. Opera Software added that the latest version was downloaded by 1 million users in 48 hours after its launching.

The company is trying this way to convince an increasing number of users to turn towards its browser, some statistics saying that Opera currently has only 1% of the market share. But analysts consider that those who are interested in the Opera browser are actually the Firefox users, not Internet Explorer clients.

This might be true if we take into consideration that the last months haven't been too good for Mozilla Foundation's browser. After the important increases recorded at the end of the year, the statistics show that, lately, Firefox has started to decrease and it's still far away from the 10% market share the browser hopes to achieve by the end of the year.

It's true that Internet Explorer's market share has also decreased, but with values smaller than 1%.

Should the interest in Opera remain constant, the browser might reach over the following months the second place in the top of the browsers, but since both Firefox and Internet Explorer are scheduled to launch new versions, Opera will be once again in a difficult position.
