And a good example comes from Blusens

We've talked time and time again about just how useful the GPS system can prove to be for a very large number of people, as it has practically revolutionized the concept of driving. Nevertheless, it would seem that there's a lot more room for innovation in this field, as a Spanish company called Blusens has just announced a couple of GPS navigators (the G01 and G02) that feature a very special approach to the concept of personal navigation device, as they replace classical navigation maps with satellite imagery.

This very interesting step forward is possible due to the fact that the new PNDs use a very special navigation software, dubbed 3D PhotoNav, which, instead of navigation maps, displays satellite images (attained via a process called Pictometry and developed by the Blom company) of the area the driver is going through. The user is thus capable of viewing the buildings in 3D, while, in the same time, being provided with all the necessary voice guidance and navigation features.

Although this approach to GPS navigation is quite an advanced and interesting one, the PNDs launched by Blusens are not exactly very different from the other comparable products available on the market in the high-end segment. Thus, the G01 model features a 4.3-inch touchscreen LCD display, includes a 30 GB HDD and comes packed with a SD/MMC card for adding extra-content, as well as an USB connector. Moreover, it provides Bluetooth connectivity, plays MP3s and MPEG4 video files and also displays digital photos. Furthermore, the device sports an audio-out jack, as well as built-in stereo speakers.

Although the company made no official statement regarding the G02, the people over at the Spanish site Gizmos hint that the second model will provide certain improved features over the G01, including here a larger HDD, enhanced Bluetooth functionality and more. Nevertheless, until the respective information becomes official, we'll just have to consider this somewhat of a rumor.

The Blusens G01 will be available at the end of November for around 499 Euro, while the G02 will probably arrive at some point in 2008, at an even higher price tag.
