The Newly Crowned Miss California Was Forced to Give Her Crown Back

Now who said beauty didn't have a cruel side to it?

Now how would you define cruelty? Are you thinking torture, broken bones and the likes? Well, think again... The cruelest stunts in this world are apparently not pulled by professional killers - surprisingly - but by... beauty pageant organizers. And no, I'm not thinking about allegedly putting pepper spray on gowns either (we all know where that will lead us) - this time, things are a bit more straightforward. On November 25th, Christina Silva was crowned Miss California and was all enthusiastic about it (you know, all the crying and thanking and all that), but her happiness was short-lived: her crown was revoked shortly afterwards, because pageant officials say the ballots weren't counted properly. Now that's gotta hurt.

According to the same pageant officials (well, I think they sort of proved they can't be trusted, but this is me being all mean again), the coveted crown in fact belongs to the runner-up, Raquel Beezley, who will also be the one to represent California at the Miss USA pageant next April. However, Christina Silva is not very happy about how things turned out. It may have been simply an unfortunate human error, but then again, maybe not - so she has hired an attorney and is said to be looking into her legal options. "They never could explain their accounting error, but told me that if I didn't give up my crown to Miss Barstow, my personal integrity could be questioned, and my career could potentially suffer" she said. That must have hurt too.

I somehow always believed the beauty pageant world was not to be messed with - and here is enough proof to convince even the most skeptical of us. If it's any consolation, Miss California organizers said that Silva will get to keep the original crown. Is it just me, or is that a huge irony? They will also refund her the entry fee and make a duplicate crown for the rightful winner. I can feel a great media scandal coming up - especially since it's arguably true that poor Christina must have suffered one hell of a shock when she was told she had to give her crown back. I'm quite looking forward to seeing how things will turn up - and we will of course keep you posted on all the news.
