The Start Menu will return in Windows sometime in the near future and even though details are fairly scarce at this point, reports keep coming on the subject.

ZDNet is reporting that the Start Menu could return even before Threshold, the future OS version that was expected to mark the comeback of this highly popular Windows function.

The Start Menu might land in Windows sometime next year as part of a Windows 8.1 update, but it’s not yet clear whether Microsoft plans to introduce it during the Spring GDR update scheduled for early 2014.

Windows Threshold, on the other hand, is expected to be launched in early 2015, with people familiar with the matter saying that Microsoft is preparing even more major changes, including the possibility to run Metro apps on the desktop in their very own windows.
