The Germans from Ultrasone have had little rest until now and this can be proven by their latest announcement: it looks like October will be the month the new PRO 900 high-end headphones will be released for the public, at a $600 MSRP. Now, there are things and things about these headphones, especially as the audiophile enthusiasts have already manifested themselves in terms of both suspicion and admiration when it came to this ear gear.

First of all, it's the fact that the PRO 900 headphones look a lot like the PRO 750... and it seems that the audiophile community was expecting something somewhat different from the previous stuff.

Despite those claiming that the Ultrasone PRO 900 are nothing but a hyped-up version of the PRO 750, we must add that the supposition that these two headphone models share the same drivers is inaccurate, to say the least. Indeed, the PRO 900 and the PRO 750 have 40 mm titanium drivers but the frequency response is different; and if two identical drivers have different frequency responses this means that one must be aided by some sort of DSP, or filtering or crossover technology... which Ultrasone do not use.

Compact and stylish, the Ultrasone PRO 900 are coming soon

From what the manufacturer let us know about the new headset, the PRO 900 boast a smaller driver chamber but sport a different soundstage, greatly enhanced by the S-Logic Plus technology and the special shielding. Ultrasone claim that the shielding technology used in the PRO 900 will also help deliver safer conditions for all your listening habits, thanks to the Ultra-Low Emission MU-Metal.

The S-Logic Plus driver placement technology will deliver a better perception of spatial sound: the drivers' response is no longer directed straight to the ears – the drivers have a slant positioning so that the sound waves are received using the outer ear, exactly like we hear in our everyday lives. This helps create multiple sonic reflections which are closer to the sounds we hear in reality, thus allowing the listener to get a better and wider acoustic picture without using DSP technologies.

As for the other tech specs, the Ultrasone PRO 900 also boast a lighter sound pressure on the ears, delivering a max of 96 dB, with a frequency response ranging between 6 Hz and 42 kHz. Velvet covering for the circumauricular earpieces comes as standard, as well as the high-class Neutrik connectors, padded headband and carrying case.

Now, the only thing we can do is wait for the Ultrasone PRO 900 to surface and then see if the $200 extra on the price tag is really worth the facts.

First of all, lets get the facts straight. All ultrasones feature decentralized drivers, so this is not a new feature of "s-logic plus"

All Ultrasones feature mu metal shielding, so again not a new feature.

We got this straight from horses mouth so to speak. S-Logic plus basically drills little holes in the same drivers, and adds a damping paper.

That's it.

Frequency response measurements are not standardized. Go ahead...measure the frequency yourself. It hasn't changed that much. It's all in marketing.
