Sticking on crooked teeth is considered attractive in Tokyo

The Plaisir Dental Salon in Tokyo promises to make you more attractive by making your teeth look crooked and yellow. You don't even have to smoke to achieve this effect.

Apparently, perfection is not desirable in Japan. You are most likely to be approached by a suitor if your hair is frizzy, you wear glasses and your teeth are flawed.

As a big part of the population doesn't enlist an orthodontist's services at a young age, all the popular kids experience dental issues.

At the Plaisir Salon, you can apply for Tsuke-yaeba, a procedure in which crooked teeth are stuck on top of your natural ones. You can choose a color that resembles that of your real teeth, or really go for beige if you want to hit the clubs.

According to AsianCorrespondent, the procedure is fast, painless and reversible. The cost for making your teeth irresistible is around ¥30,000 ($390/€308). However, it might not be enough.

If you want to improve your look, you may need to try harder. Polls in the past have shown that Japanese women are also more attracted to men wearing glasses, for example.

Tokyo-based orthodontist Masaru Iwatsuk warns people about the dangers of using Tsuke-yaeba, “Teeth have holes to let oxygen in. Covering them is bad for the tooth’s health,” he explains.

“It’s clearly a passing fad -- something that will be gone in six months,” he adds.

The doctor relies on the fact that the misconception about healthy teeth being considered unappealing is just a phase for the Japanese. However, beauty is relative to culture and education, so this one might stick around for a while.
