14 DAY TRIAL // We all know that Microsoft will bring back the Start menu in Windows at some point in the future, but no other specifics are known right now, as the company still keeps everything secret.
Microsoft's Executive Vice President of operating systems, Terry Myerson, told ZDNet that while the Start menu is expected to be released sometime in the future, it’s not yet ready to be launched to users, and the company only showed it at BUILD because it was important for developers.
“The reason we (showed) that work is we thought it was important to share with developers. When do I deliver it? I really don't have anything to share there. We're just not ready yet,” he said.
The Start menu that was presented at BUILD 2014 in San Francisco came with live tiles obviously imported from the Start screen, but also with a search box and power controls to easily reboot or shut down your computer.
Myerson said last week at BUILD that the Start menu would be released to users in a future Windows 8.1 update, so chances are that this highly-anticipated feature could return before the end of the year as part of a new round of improvements for Microsoft’s modern operating system.
