The New Google+ Sign-In Is a Direct Shot at Facebook

Google has just introduced Google+ Sing-In, a new authentication method for third-party websites and apps.

Google already has a similar system, but the new tool goes beyond providing simple authentication and includes things like profile data, to make it easier to register for a new service, or the ability to share app activities on Google+.

If any of this sounds familiar, it's because Facebook already does it. Google won't say it outright, but it's gunning straight for Facebook Connect with Google+ Sign-In.

In fact, among the benefits of the new option touted by Google is the ability to share your activities in a deliberate way, unlike Facebook's "frictionless" sharing.

"With Google+ Sign-In and circles you decide who to share with, if at all. In addition: Google+ doesn’t let apps spray “frictionless” updates all over the stream, so app activity will only appear when it’s relevant (like when you’re actually looking for it)," Google explained.

Google is also introducing a new form of "interactive" sharing, for when you want people to take action, not just look at a photo or link.

Sharing something from apps that implement the feature will result in an interactive post, which will allow your friends to go directly to the app to listen, buy or review something.
