The holiday season is coming and everyone is scrambling to make the most of it. Google is now boasting about the new and improved Product Search.

Product Search is designed to surface the best offers and the best products depending on what you're looking for and relies on data from a large number of online stores, and even from some offline ones as well.

In the latest update, Google focused on emphasizing the most relevant result, better ranking for some products based on 'popularity' as well as providing deeper info for product details.

One interesting addition is "Best match" which aims to showcase the exact product you're looking for, if Google is confident enough in the result.

This works best when you know exactly what you're looking for and not doing some generic searches. The results page will emphasize one product, hopefully the one you're looking for, and other less relevant results are pushed further down.

If you know what you want to buy but you don't know which model from which company is the best, Google now relies more on 'popularity' for ranking. Popularity is factor for more product categories now.

Google is also adding more info to its product detail pages. The Product Features section offers better descriptions for the product's main characteristics.

The shopping experience for things beyond gadgets is getting better as well. A couple of months ago, Google Product Search started integrating some features from Boutiques.com, Google's former shopping site aimed at apparel, shoes, accessories and so on.

Shoe searches have been updated now, following the template applied for clothes searches. There are now bigger images and more relevant filters, such as brand, style, color and so on. Building on Like.com's visual search technology, also used in Boutiques.com, the detail pages for shoes now display similar models from other brands or shops.
