Reservations and upcoming events are also included in the results now

The new Google Maps is still optional, and for good reason. The fully revamped site is still in what could be considered a beta, but Google is slowly adding new features to bring it up to par with the older Maps. One of the most requested features is now supported, namely directions for multiple destinations.

And, keeping with the "personal" Maps theme, your reservations are now taken into account. Likewise, upcoming events for various venues are displayed on the map.

"Though summer has come to an end – at least in the Northern Hemisphere – your feedback on the new Google Maps preview these past three months has been a great help in our continuing quest to build a better map, more tailored to you," Google wrote. And it's not stopping now, the company says.

"Whether you're running weekend errands or planning a cross-country tour, you can plot multiple destinations for your trip with ease – now available for driving, walking and biking directions," it explained.

When Google decided the new Maps was ready for testing, it knew that there were still missing features. One of the most obvious was support for multiple destinations. Planning a trip rarely involves just going from A to B, so this oversight probably caused plenty of people to revert to the old Maps.

To plan a route with multiple stops, select a starting point and then click on the + button to add destinations. You can then reorder them if you have a certain schedule to keep or have to arrive at one place before the other. The Street View and other photos carousel is now also displayed on the directions page.

A second addition to the new maps is support for flight, hotel, and restaurant reservations. After you search for a restaurant or airport, you'll see any reservations you made show up at the location. You have to be signed into your Google account for this to work. The feature only works in the US for English users.

Finally, upcoming events at various locations are now displayed in Google Maps if you search for a specific place, or even generic things like "music venues."
