For the “heavy lifting” related to content publishing

At the end of the past week Ferrari introduced their new Ferrari.com website, which is powered by SharePoint Server 2007, according to Owen Allen, SharePoint product manager. SharePoint Server is used for all the “heavy lifting” related to publishing. Microsoft is in fact mentioning capabilities involving content publishing and management, but also records management, and even BI (business intelligence) for websites that rely on SharePoint. The new Ferrari.com website is already live and you can visit it and get an insight on the Italian scuderia.

“Lots of great information – plenty of images and videos and a great way to follow your favorite driver and team. I’ve heard that there was a great team that contributed to this site, and I can’t wait to learn more of the stories about how the development, design, and implementation of this site occurred,” Allen said. “Ferrari is an amazing company, and I’m sure that this project was handled in a top-flight way. The virtual tour through the Ferrari facilities and the quick wind tunnel view in the launch video is pretty cool!”

Ferrari.com is a veritable encyclopedia of content related to the scuderia. Users will be able to find out the latest news, explore GT and sport cars, buy from the Ferrari store, read blogs, and even take a virtual tour of Maranello. Of course, the website also offers a quick way to find a dealer of Ferrari cars, or to get in contact with other Ferrari owners. Users will be able to access Ferrari TV and get screensavers and wallpapers designed to personalize their desktop experience.

Since early 2008, Microsoft has been offering Office SharePoint 2007 Server with Service Pack 1 for download. Both the 32-bit and 64-bit flavors of the solution are up for grabs at no cost, and customers are free to evaluate them for a total of 140 days.

Office SharePoint Server 2007 with SP1 32-bit and 64-bit can be downloaded from here.
