The Facebook Events feature has gotten an update that seems to have been rolled out to everyone by now. The events page has been revamped and there are big and small changes throughout.
The event's details take center stage, as they should, with all of the basic info such as, what the event is about, where it's being held and when, sitting on top of the page.
One interesting addition is that events that have a location or place attached to them also get an embedded map, thanks to Facebook's best friend Microsoft.
The guests list on the left has gotten a subtle but important change. People that have been invited but are not showing up for an event will no longer be listed.
Instead, the list contains the people that have confirmed their presence, those that may be able to attend and a list of those invited, who may not have decided yet whether they'll attend or not.
This takes the pain somewhat out of clicking the "Decline" button. What's more, Facebook invites you to give an excuse for not attending and have it published on the event's wall.
That may look like a nice option of declining to attend politely, but it just seems that it's putting people under the spot for no reason. Thankfully, you can skip this step and simply decline the offer, providing no explanation.
One rather annoying design flaw of the new events page is the blue "Join" button. Even if you haven't decided to attend an event, the Join button will be blue while the "Maybe" and "Decline" buttons are gray.
To most people, this is going to imply that they've already selected join even if they haven't. Instead, if they do click on join, a green checkmark is displayed next to the button briefly after which all the buttons disappear.
