So far, the Marvel superhero movies have followed the tried-and-tested method of borrowing heavily from their comic book world counterparts, simply because it was good material waiting to be used and because it also offered the audience something to hold on to. But the producers of the new “Doctor Strange” movie want to try something different.

Instead of telling the tale of how Doctor Strange got to be so strange, they are instead thinking of presenting a whole new, different story. So you're not going to see how Dr. Strange got his powers.

“Dr. Strange movie no longer has an origin. It begins in medias res. It has Dr. Strange already established as the Sorcerer Supreme. It is a totally new script. Jon Spaihts is working totally new, On his own, without any of the previous stuff. Not even touching the previous script,” was the announcement made on Badass Digest.

It sounds like Marvel is trying to shake things up in order to keep the public interested. No word on whether a following movie in the franchise is going to tackle the origin story, but the head of Marvel, Kevin Feige, did mention at one point that they planned to use this movie to enter the supernatural side of the Marvel Universe.

Fans are hoping that the director Scott Derrickson, whose previous works include “Sinister” and “Deliver Us from Evil,” will be able to bring a more horror movie atmosphere to the project, which would fall well with the character's magical powers and mystical origins.

“Doctor Strange” is slated for released on July 8, 2016.
