There are situations where localized storage is not an option at all or it is not the best possible way of doing things. In situations where information is needed by a high number of users it is often better to keep it stored on a dedicated server that allows network connections to be established and which supports remote access.

Such a
networking storage system is the latest product from Linksys, the personal and office products manufacturing division of the networking giant Cusco Systems. The Linksys Network Storage System named NAS 200, comes with two fast Serial ATA hard disk drives and two more readily available SATA drive bays so users may expand the server's storage capabilities as desired. For even more storage flexibility, Linksys attached two high speed USB version 2.0 compliant ports that allow USB based external storage solutions to be linked with the network server. The USB ports can be used for plugging in flash data sticks too allowing users to easily access portable files and applications.

The NAS200 storage system is easy to attach and integrate into an existing network as all users have to do is to connect it to an available 10/100 Ethernet port on a router or switch. Apart from the ease of use, the Linksys Network Storage System offers complete and fast back up solutions with just one push of a button as a number of built-in utilities for such operations are bundled with the server.

In order to control the bundled software, users need only a browser, as all applications are Web enabled and additionally, the network storage server can be set up in such a way as to be accessible directly from the Internet via a web browser or FTP, while files stored on it can be made available publicly, or create password-protected accounts for your authorized users. Another Web feature integrated into this server is the download manager that allows users to remotely initiate a download by either FTP or HTTP then shut down their personal computer as the server will continue the download independently.
