Recent news from The Netherlands says that, last year, the country added roughly 100,000 solar roofs. Besides, media reports prove that, by the end of 2014, The Netherlands wishes to become even greener and install just as many.

Clean Technica tells us that, according to official figures shared with the public, the exact number of solar roofs that were set in place in The Netherlands in 2013 is 101,326. It is estimated that these roofs' clean energy capacity is one of 300 megawatts.

Specialists explain that, with the help of these solar roofs, most of which sit on top of private homes, the country managed to up its solar power capacity from 365 megawatts to 665 megawatts, the same source informs.

In is interesting to note that, in 2013, the United States set in place approximately 140,000 such installations. Given the fact that the United States' population is about 19 times larger than that of The Netherlands, there is little denying that the latter did way better.

In a recent interview, Edwin Koot with private company Solarplaza explained that, presently, “In the Netherlands it is currently more profitable to invest on your roof than to put it in a bank account.”

“The Netherlands now has more than 1,100 suppliers of solar systems, some 300 more than the 800 that were reported last May,” he further detailed.
