Sorry, no Canon

Here's a more serious gadget aimed at professional photographers or at serious hobbyists who need global positioning system, or GPS, capabilities. Its name is N2 di-GPS mini and its purpose is to provide GPS information that will be embedded in the image data itself.

This can be very useful for photojournalists or wildlife photographers who need that sort of data for their subjects. The device can be attached to the camera in two ways, on the hot-shoe or to the strap, but I'm guessing most people will prefer to be able to attach their flashes instead of the GPS unit.

Regarding specifications, the N2 di-GPS mini features a low power consumption of around 85mA, 20-Channel GPS Receiver for fast acquisition and reacquisition, 200,000 effective correlators for fast TTFF (Time To First Fix) and a built-in WAAS Demodulator. According to the manufacturer, this allows for a very high sensitivity and provides superior positioning information in environments, through urban canyons, and under dense foliage.

Other benefits include a built-in backup battery, which stores system data for rapid satellite acquisition, and a built-in patch antenna, which eliminates the need for an external unit.

The very bad news is that it only works with Nikon and Fujifilm DSLRs (Nikon D2HS, D2X, D2XS & D200, Fujifilm S5 Pro), so if you have Canon gear, you'll have to find other solutions. The good news is that the $340 (including shipping) priced N2 di-GPS connects to the cameras without the MC-35 GPS Adapter Cord.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
