At the beginning of December, Mariah Carey, the diva we all know for such a long time and whom we learned to love despite her flaws, made one decision that nobody really seemed to understand (save her attorneys, of course): she filed a suit against a well-known porn star (and politician, too!) for having a name similar to hers.
Mariah backed her decision by saying that Mary Carey (real name, Mary Cook) might mislead her fans. The connection between the porn industry and music was lost for most, but she stated for a fact that Mary's adult movies could make people believe that it is, in fact, Mariah the one who stars in them.
'Mary Carey and Mariah Carey share the identical surname and have first names that are very similar. Confusion

between your client and her Mary Carey trademark and our client and its Mariah Carey trademark is therefore likely.', a statement from the diva's lawyers said.
Naturally, the porn star's attorney pointed out that the lawsuit in itself is more than absurd and even she, the actress stated from the very beginning that she would not give up without a fight. 'I'm ready to battle Mariah over this because I've been Mary Carey for a long time. It's kind of funny because I'm a porn star and I've been being myself for a long time. I think she's being silly.', Mary said at the time.
Rumor now has it that Mariah won the legal battle, by which Mary will not be allowed to use the alias 'Carey' anymore but, this far, there is no confirmation for it so it stays just that. And, judging by this photo the one-time politician (she ran for governor of California against Arnold Schwarzenegger) posted on her site, she plans to do just that.
Of course, the fun of all of this is saved especially for us: it's great watching two fully grown-up women fighting for something that childish and resorting to this type of infantile tricks. We'll keep you posted with more on this bitter battle of names.
