It seems that today is the day when the games industry and Hollywood shake hands and have no desire to ever let go: we have THQ developing a title following an agreement with DreamWorks and another one following an agreement with Marvel. But things are not going to stop here: Sierra has also announced having managed to catch a big fish, by signing an agreement with Universal Pictures to develop a game based on the next iteration in The Mummy series: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Still, it's a bit strange to find out that the game, and action-adventure title, will only be developed for PS2, Wii and DS consoles. No next-gen versions for the latest Brendan Fraser and Jet Li flick, so many people might be disappointed.

"The Mummy is one of the most distinctive and expansive franchises in Universal's portfolio, and there is inherent gameplay in the property," said Bill Kispert, Vice President and General Manager, Interactive, Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group. "The new film amps up the action, introduces a ruthless new villain and takes our heroes to incredible new locations. We are thrilled to bring all these attributes to life in this game."

And all these will be brought to life in the game using the third person adventure techniques: movie's hero Rick O'Connell and his son, Alex, will be the playable characters and we'll have to guide them through exotic locations, from ancient catacombs in China to dangerous Himalayan peaks with only one goal in mind: to find and defeat all the servants of the Dragon Emperor. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor features both hand to hand melee battles and gunplay, everything perfectly implemented for a fast and furious gameplay.

We can only hope that Sierra is working on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor at full speed, since the game is scheduled to be launched this August on the 8th, one week after the cinema release of the movie.
