As the number of devices that are using either the USB or the FireWire connection standards in order to connect to a host computer system is huge and growing every day and thanks to the fact that now almost every computer user sports one of more such gadgets, it is very easy for some to be left
out in the cold when it comes to available and free ports.

For such cases there are the USB and FireWire hubs that are using a single port in the host computer system, while providing at the other end more ports and thus more connection options. Unfortunately, until now nobody has thought of creating a combined USB and FireWire hub that could combine the two widely used protocols into a single unit.

Now, things just changed for the better as the Medusa Hub is here and it comes with some interesting features like four downstream high speed USB 2.0 connections and one upstream connection as well as two downstream FireWire 400 ports which are served by a single upstream connector too. The Medusa Hub supports the USB 2.0 interface as well as the FireWire 400, and so it is capable of delivering speeds of 480Mbps and respectively 400Mbps, depending upon the used protocol.

Coming in a nice and glossy white color, the Medusa Hub is offering also a USB powered light as well as a fan for those hot summer days and on the system requirements side, it only needs a computer system that has one USB and one FireWire port free in order to connect to them.

As the whole system is plug and play compatible and driver free, the Medusa Hub works with any operating system that supports the USB and the FireWire protocols, like the Mac OS 9; Mac OS X or higher as well as Windows 98SE, Me, 2000, XP, Windows Vista and Linux. The new combo hub is now readily available in online stores for a price tag of almost $80, but for computer users that are running low on USB or FireWire ports, it may be a welcomed addition.
