I do believe most of you have heard about Nintendo's future console, the Wii, and its main point of attraction, the nunchuck-shaped wireless gyroscopic controller. Well, it seems that the technology has inspired some other manufacturers, one of them being Thomson, whose special brand, Gyration, has launched a little trinket called the Air Mouse Presenter, a device that can be maneuvered in thin air.
Thus, it seems that the need for a flat surface in order to operate the mouse is ancient history, since the Air Mouse Presenter can be used just about anywhere.
All the user has to do is plug in the USB receiver and start moving his/her hand in the air. Moreover, as kind of a gift from the manufacturers, the receiver doubles as a flash storage device with 1 GB of internal memory, quite enough for carrying around some vital data.
Here are some of the most important features of this very innovative device:
- 2 button mouse;
- Works with 1 AAA battery;
- Features a SWIPES button for motion activated control and effects;
- USB receiver doubles as a 1 GB flash drive;
- Includes GyroTools Media Control Software for Windows loaded on the flash drive;
- Built-in 2.4 GHz RF technology, works up to 100 feet (30 meters).
Although it probably feels pretty strange to browse, click, drag and drop in the air, at least at the beginning, this device could prove to be quite useful in a lot of situations, especially during presentations on wide screens or when there's no space for using an ordinary mouse.
