An original way to make money, rather than make a game

It's true that there are so many video games out there that if someone were to come forward and say "hey, I've got the most original idea how to make a great game," most of us wouldn't believe a word, having seen all kinds of shooting, racing, adventure, puzzle and strategy games. But recently, we found out that someone did come up with a very original idea on which to make a game, only that it involves more watching and less playing. Yeah, I know, lousy idea.

Japanese video game designer at Konami, Hideo Kojima thought of bringing somewhat of an odd yet original gameplay to the world of games but I still don't see where the gameplay actually kicks in. Here are the developer's actual words on this in an interview with Edge magazine, so you can better understand his intentions: "The zombie idea I have is a bit different. Imagine a large town where half the inhabitants are zombies. Users would subscribe, get inside the town and get bitten. At that stage they become undead and can't control their character - all they can do is modify the camera angles... They'd see their character attacking humans and have to pay just to watch!"

So let me get this straight, I make the account (cause it's online, I forgot to say), make the payment, start the game, play it for 5 to 10 minutes at which point I have to take my hands off the keyboard and just watch helplessly how my character gets bitten, becomes undead and does all sorts of zombie-like things, right? OK, it's original, that I can cope with, what I don't understand is how even the world's biggest couch potato is going to find this not-to-play game fun. Maybe I'm missing something, I don't know...
