We've been hearing about this engagement for quite a while now so I guess it's pretty safe to say that no one really believes it to be true anymore. Come to thing of it, we've heard and read so many things about Pete Doherty and Kate Moss (including that they got secretly married and that they were expecting their first child) and each time a rumor like this got out, it was immediately vehemently denied by the supermodel's people.
Well, no one can change anything now. No damage control can come in hand, now that Pete officially told a live audience that he got engaged. The Babyshambles frontman made the shocking announcement last night, as he was performing at a gig in London. Before performing his latest track 'PK Nuts', he invited his soul mate on stage to sing with him and clearly said that it was dedicated to his 'beloved fiancée'. To make matters even more official (if such a thing is possible), Kate was seen wearing a sparkling diamond ring on her engagement finger.
Naturally, this thing was seen as coming months ago but that doesn't stop the British and international media from wondering how the whole engagement-getting married thing will affect Kate's blooming modeling career. There is a widely held opinion that the relationship was, until now, kept on the low-low for the sake of Kate's public image: she had many contracts that she didn't want to lose because her name was associated with Pete's.
In recent weeks, Kate seems to have distanced herself from her representatives and image consultants, as she has been seen more and more often with Pete, often behaving in ways that would certainly impact on her reputation later. One of those cases is last night, when she was photographed dangling head down from a window, while Pete, guitar in hand, was speaking to the photographers downstairs.
Another thing that got the British media well wired is the way Pete's been looking lately. The rocker, with cracked lips, weeping sores all over his face, bleeding nostrils, blood-shot eyes and stained and filthy hands, makes for a shocking appearance one should see only in horror flicks. Even if Kate had him promise he would lay off the drugs, he openly admitted a while ago that he still used crack cocaine every single day because he couldn't live without it. Apparently, the way he looks now is further evidence that he's not clean. Yet.
The wedding date hasn't been made public.
