According to Flurry

The holiday season and Christmas brought in a wider traction towards mobile software solutions, and the sales of Android applications went up 20 percent from November to December in the Android Market, Flurry, the biggest mobile app analytics company, reports. Moreover, the firm also shows that the owners of a Motorola DROID were those to purchase the largest number of applications from the software portal.

49 percent of all Android applications that were sold on Christmas day went to the Motorola DROID, it seems, something that also suggests that the Motorola DROID is the best selling Android-based mobile phone on the market. Moreover, it shows that the Android operating system is steadily increasing its market share in the mobile world, and that this is one of the devices that fuel that growth.

The Flurry report further reveals that the T-Mobile myTouch 3G comes second in line, when the number of sold apps during Christmas is concerned, yet the difference is impressive: it only accounts for 18 percent of the total number. Moreover, it is followed closely by the HTC Hero, with 17 percent of the apps, and the T-Mobile G1, which accounts for 16 percent.

The 20 percent growth registered by the Android Market downloads from November to December are impressive enough, and they show that the operating system is moving upwards, even if the increase is shadowed by a 51 percent rise in downloads registered in Apple's App Store. With a larger number of available software solutions, and a greater number of users, it was only normal for that to happen.

However, the iPhone is expected to stop growing at a certain moment, while the Android has been already forecast to go high in the sky in the near future, with a number of 150,000 apps available in the Android Market in a matter of years. Google's Android is a developer-friendly mobile OS, and there is a lot of buzz surrounding it at the moment, but we'll still have to wait and see if all goes according to expectations in the end.
