According to a recent study published in the Psychological Bulletin Journal, people who suffer from severe conditions with symptoms such as fatigue, physical exhaustion etc. should not stay away from the gym or avoid staying active - because regular exercise boosts energy levels in any individual, independent of his health condition.

Therefore, researchers at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., who carried out the study, advise people to take up regular, moderate-intensity exercise, as this is going to make them more energetic and able to see about their everyday business, tasks and concerns. The team stressed in their paper that even cancer or heart disease patients should consider regular exercise, even if of low-intensity levels.

Most individuals when feeling tired or exhausted see exercising as the last thing to do in order to regain energy and stamina. They firstly consider sleeping or resting. But this is a wrong way to view things, pointed out University of Georgia researchers. If one is tired or lacks vitality he should exercise and then he will feel better, more energetic.

Researcher Patrick O'Connor who took part in the study, co-director of the University of Georgia Exercise Psychology Laboratory, stated: "A lot of times when people are fatigued, the last thing they want to do is exercise. But if you're physically inactive and fatigued, being just a bit more active will help."

In conclusion, 'burning energy' through physical effort produces more energy in the body of the individual who works out. We should not let ourselves indulge in wrong beliefs that when we are tired all we need is to lie down and rest or sleep. Sleeping is good, but it should not be considered the only solution to boosting levels of energy in our body.

The study especially addresses people who suffer from serious conditions which are associated with permanent fatigue and physical exhaustion - they should not give up, they should exercise regularly, because this is going to provide them with more energy, vitality and stamina.

Dr. O'Connor said: "More than 90 percent of the studies showed the same thing: Sedentary people who completed a regular exercise program reported improved fatigue compared to groups that did not exercise. It's a very consistent effect."

The current study was an investigation of more than previous 70 researches on the same subject, which included more than 6,800 individuals. Overall results of the investigation showed that people in all groups of ages and independent of their health status benefited from regular exercise, as they became more full of vitality, energy and stamina. The Greek team running the current study advised individuals worldwide not to resort to various alimentary products, which promise to boost their energy levels:

"We live in a society where people are always looking for the next sports drink, energy bar, or cup of coffee that will give them the extra edge to get through the day. But it may be that lacing up your tennis shoes and getting out and doing some physical activity every morning can provide that spark of energy that people are looking for," stated researcher Tim Puetz, PhD, of the UGA, who also took part in the research.
