Do you remember the revolutionary product announced by OWC and Axiotron? After a short wait, the product, known as the
ModBook, was revealed to the public, and the place was - obviously - the Macworld Expo, but before I tell you more, let me first remind you who is behind this product.
OWC is a company well known for its products: the iPod, CPU upgrades for Mac and Firewire hard drives, and now they are also known as the first ones that brought a real Mac tablet solution to the world. Axiotron is their manufacturing partner, and together, they created... the MacBook, ladies and gentlemen!
The MacBook will be available in three configurations, simply described as "Good", "Better" and "Best" on the Other World Computing official website. The devices can be pre-reserved now, and you have the complete right to cancel prior to follow up in mid-March/April, and all pre-reserve customers who place and complete an order by the 1st day of March will also receive the GPS option at no additional charge!
Things look like this - all three models come with AnyView 13.3" Wide Screen, ForceGlass Screen & Camera Cover, WACOM Penabled Digitizer, and the "Better" and "Best" versions feature a built-in WAAS enabled GPS. This is the ModBook part, and the Macs below start with a 1.83GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 512MB of RAM and 60GB hard drive, continue with a 2.0GHz CPU, 1GB RAM and 80GB hard drive configuration, while the best option available is a 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook with 2GB of memory and 160GB hard drive.
The pre-reserving special prices are 2199$, 2399$ and 2699$, and if you pre-reserve the basic version, you will also get the GPS upgrade for free. The regular prices will be 2279$, 2579$ and 2849$, and if you want a hands on trial, then go to the S2218 booth at Macworld to check the ModBook live!
