British people would take their mobile phone to the grave

According to a new study, more than one in five Brits would like to be buried with their mobile phones. There is in fact a reason for this, or even several reasons.

One of the reasons would be the users' desire to keep their phones close by in order to still receive texts and calls from the loved ones. According to the Egyptian burial tradition, people were buried with as many material goods as possible and the Brits seem to be thinking somewhat in the same manner, the difference being that they'd rather take items that hold special memories instead of valuable objects.

Customers that were aged between 18 and 30 were questioned to discover what objects they would choose if they could have only one item with them in their casket. 17 percent of them chose their mobile phone, coming third after wedding rings and other jewelry items such as lockets or bracelets.

Other personal items on the list included photos of loved ones, letters or childhood toys. Also, the majority of the ones that would take their mobile phones with them said that they chose their handsets so that they could still receive messages from loved ones via text messages.

Some people that feared being buried alive thought that a mobile phone would be quite important in such a case and would allow them to warn others, while still others simply don't want anyone else to view the personal messages and pictures stored on their phones.

Well, while this might seem awkward for some, I guess it's kind of soothing for people to know that in some way their loved ones can send them messages regardless of the situation they are in.

According to a Dial-a-Phone spokesman "The mobile phone is modern man's immediate connection with the world around him. It's no surprise that, instead of the traditional religious objects like beads or prayer books, we now feel more comfortable facing death with our handset by our side."
