HDMC-U series from I-O Data Device

Mobile storage solutions (a.k.a. Mobile HDDs) have become very important over the past few years, as the need for mobility and the transfer of large amounts of data is becoming increasingly dire. However, not all storage solutions are very reliable and resistant (especially if dropped by accident into water), and that's one of the reasons why the Japanese company I-O Data Device has launched a very special line of such devices, namely the "HDMC-U series", capable of carrying your data in perfect safety even if submerged under 1 meter of water.

But how is this possible? The answer lies in the waterproof rubber material wrapped around the HDD inside the outer body, which prevents water from penetrating the HDD. Moreover, this is great for cleaning, since the user can wipe the device with a wet cloth without having to fear for the security of his/her data. Another great thing about the mobile HDD from I-O Data Device is that it's shockproof for falls from up to 122 cm, regardless of the type of surface it's falling onto. Apparently, the company's engineers subjected the device to 26 different tests before reaching the aforementioned conclusions.

Here are the most important features and specs this device has to offer:

- dimensions: 52.0 x 59.5 x 18.0 mm; - storage capacities: available in 8 GB or 12 GB models; - interface: USB 2.0, USB 1.1.

The two waterproof and shockproof mobile HDD models from I-O Data Device will be launched this December in Japan, the 8 GB being priced at around 102 Euro, while the 12 GB model will cost around 137 Euro (without taxes). The company hopes to manufacture 20,000 units of these two models per year, so they will reach the European shores sooner or later.
