“The Mentalist” is down to a few more episodes before it bows out after 7 seasons. The season 6 finale brought the charming Patrick Jane and Special Agent Teresa Lisbon together as a couple, so fans must be wondering if the show is really going to go out on a high note for Jane.

Will he or will he not get a happy ending, that is the question.

According to series creator and producer Bruno Heller, he will. If you thought Jane would wake up one day and realize he wasn’t yet over the death of his wife and child, or that he didn’t want to be in a relationship for whatever reason, you have probably been watching too much “House” or “Dexter.”

Of course, Heller isn’t at liberty to reveal more details about the ending, but he will say this: it’s going to be a happy one, one that is in line with the show so far. They won’t be going for something shocking, complicated or “too clever,” because they want to offer proper closure to the fans, one that will satisfy them and reward them for their loyalty.

“The beauty of being able to end a series when and where you want to is that you can deliver a happy ending. The last episode will be a kind of joyful encore, as opposed to a whimpering exit,” Heller says. “It gives it an ending, and it does give you an idea of what these people's lives are going to be after.”

Then again, I can think of at least a handful of shows whose producers also promised fans solid, satisfying endings (the two mentioned above included), and no good came out of that. We’ll see soon if “The Mentalist” delivers.
