The phone was presented as a concept two years ago

AU announced 10 phones, one of them being the first Media Skin, a concept phone that has now been finalized. The Media Skin was designed by Tokujin Yoshioka, who among others has worked for Issey Miyake, Hermes and Bang & Olufsen, and presented to the public around two years ago.

Everyone is already used to the fact that KDDI releases mobile phones with an amazing design and there's no surprise here. In fact, the Media Skin is just another good looking phone that only KDDI customers will be able to enjoy and the rest of us somewhere else in the world will only get to see photos of.

The Media Skin is a CDMA EV-DO (WIN) phone and features a 1seg TV tuner, MOD with LISMO, EZ Felicia electronic wallet, screen with a QVGA resolution, a 1.3 megapixel camera and a web browser. Which means that you can use this phone to take snapshots, watch TV, listen to music, browse the net and more. Thus, for the people in Asia it's pretty much your usual phone, except for the fact that its design makes it stand apart from all the clamshell phones KDDI is offering.

Its design is as simple as it gets, which is why some will love this phone while some will think it's ugly, but as stated before, its main advantage is that it brings a different form factor than all the clamshell phones you're used to seeing in either KDDI, Softbank or NTT DoCoMo's lineup. The Media Skin is available in 3 colors, orange, black or white, measuring 50x110x13.1mm and weighing 105g. And for the people who like it, it's a pretty good reason to switch from NTT DoCoMo to KDDI, as DoCoMo has also released a pretty decent number of phones lately, but none of them can be considered as good looking as the Media Skin.
