“The Master” marks the movie event that all Joaquin Phoenix fans have been breathlessly waiting for. A new teaser trailer for it has been released: check it out above.

Said to be inspired by the cult (Church?) of Scientology, the film tells the story of a Navy man Freddie (Phoenix) who agrees to become apprentice to the Master, a religious leader named Dodd (played by the always spooky Philip Seymour Hoffman).

Amy Adams plays Dodd's wife but there are some hints in this new clip that she might develop an affection for Freddie as well.

“The Master” is directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, who famously helmed “There Will Be Blood” before that, and has October 12th as release date.

By the looks of this new trailer, to paraphrase commenters online, we can say just this: There will be... Oscars!
