The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated “The Martian” has been released, and as you can see for yourself in the video below, it stays true to the promises made in previous promo materials - and then some.

“The Martian,” based on the bestselling book of the same name by Andy Weir, is beautiful and huge in scale, tense and action-packed, heartbreaking and humorous. It tells the story of an astronaut left stranded on Mars after a manned mission is cut short by a violent storm.

That man is Mark Watney and he is played by Matt Damon. He has only 31 days to survive, which, in his case, means finding a way to make contact with his ship Ares 3 or NASA, and to grow food that would sustain him for the 4 years it would get for the rescue mission to reach him.

As trailers go these days, this one sticks to the famous recipe: the first half is fun and slow-paced, while the second one is packed with edited footage and quick cuts promising plenty of action and drama.

If the trailer won’t convince you to give “The Martian” a chance, and neither would Scott’s name as the director, perhaps the impressive cast will: beside Damon, you will see Jessica Chastain, Michael Pena, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Kristen Wiig, Sean Bean, and Donald Glover.

“The Martian” drops in theaters on November 25.
