The Mandate aims to deliver a complete sci-fi experience tailored to appeal to hardcore fans of the genre, and developer Perihelion Interactive has just rolled out another trailer, unveiling a new portion of the upcoming game.

As the captain of a Mandate starship, you have to lead your crew through the galaxy in various adventures, where they will grow as they fight by your side. The company has realized that all popular sci-fi shows focus on the interactions between crew members, and as such, have devoted their time to finding the yet untapped potential of this notion.

Regular spacefaring games usually have you behind the wheel of an automated spaceship that functions as a monolith, and the developers want to remove the feeling of empty spaceships that is prevalent in other such games.

Perihelion Interactive has also just launched a new community website, which in addition to the visual overhaul also features an integrated chat and some brand new forums, and the company has informed all backers that they will receive an invite during the following couple of days via email, with instructions on how to activate their accounts on the new community site.

On the new website, they state to have invited over 5k out of the total of 17k backers so far, but the invitation process has been temporarily halted due to their servers being overloaded. Perihelion Interactive has revealed that they have implemented a scalable solution to this, adding extra servers, and that they will resume inviting players as soon as the upgrade process is done.

The move allows the developers to merge both Kickstarter backers as well as PayPal ones into one big family, offering the community a central hub where it can better contribute to the making of The Mandate.

The developers said that they were looking forward to more fan-generated lore similar to the pieces that had already been posted on the old forums, that they were in the process of appointing moderators, and that they would also be reaching out to military and ex-military personnel and historians in the near future, to act as volunteer consultants who would help them improve the verisimilitude of the game.

In addition, the team behind The Mandate has also released a new video, showing the Battle Orchestrator in action, with the main focus being to show off the progress of in-game visuals on the ships (mainly the procedural textures and physically based shaders) as well as the battle orchestrator interface itself.

Players can pause the game at any time in order to plan things out and issue orders, and the developers have told players that all the ship speeds, turning rates and firing rates showcased in the video are simply placeholder items, and as such not representative of the final quality of gameplay or intended pacing.
