Developer Olof Olsson is proud to announce Slink 1.8, the latest version of its remote-access utility for Mac OS X, now available from Apple’s Mac App Store.

Slink is described by its makers as being the easiest way to remotely access your home network.

Using the app, Mac owners can listen to their iTunes music or watch their movies from virtually anywhere, or get the files from their home Mac or Time Capsule, help someone out troubleshooting a technical issue, etc.

"Slink is the easiest way to access content remotely from anywhere in the world," said Slinkware founder, Olof Olsson. "We are thrilled to be part of the Mac App Store from day one."

Olsson and his team believe that, for a number of reasons, the Mac App Store will provide a great app buying experience.

The reasons, according to Olsson, are:

No worry - Customers don’t need to worry about sharing billing and credit card details with not so well known software providers. No malware - Only Apple reviewed and approved apps are available on the Mac App Store, making malware infected apps unlikely.

Easy purchase - Apps are purchased in the same way as on the iPhone and iPad. Enter your iTunes password and the app flies to your dock, ready to go.

Easy upgrades - All apps purchased from the Mac App Store will be upgraded in a familiar and consistent fashion.

Flexible licensing - You can install apps on every Mac you use.

Slinkware, the company founded by Olsson, undoubtedly has high hopes for Apple’s service, yet the studio admits that Apple’s guidelines forced them into making a few changes with the build submitted to Cupertino for Approval.

According to a FAQ posted on the Slinkware blog, the Mac App Store version of Slink is “almost identical to the Slinkware Store version.”

“The major differences are: 1) different licensing terms, and 2) the Mac App Store version will not support Slink running as a menu bar item only,” the company explains.

Apple is known to disapprove of any type of under-featured, lite / trial / demo versions of all Mac apps that go through its net.

Still, Slinkware trusts that “the Mac App store will revolutionize the way that apps are purchased and this will be great for both consumers and developers.”
