Video game developer Turbine and publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have announced details on the content that is introduced via the new update for the MMO The Lord of the Rings Online.

The new areas are: Thinglad, Parth Celebrant, Eorlsmead, Wailing Hills, Limlight Gorge, Brown Lands and The Rushgore.

The new Thinglad area will allow gamers to help the Lothlórien guards as they patrol the southern borders of the land, fighting off groups of both Orcs and Wargs before they can do any real damage to the area.

Gamers will also need to have a diplomatic side and gamers will be able to mediate between the Galadrim and the Rohirrim from Stangard, who have been clashing on their own patrols.

In Parth Celebrant gamers will encounter both real enemies and ghosts of the past and will be able to bring peace to the troubled specters.

In the Rohirrim village of Eorlsmead Lord of the Rings Online players will need to root out a source of corruption that threatens the loyalty of the area while also helping with food and supply shortages.

The Wailing Hills are the place of an ancient battle but has been now invaded by Orcs, which players need to drive out before they can establish a stronger presence.

The Limlight Gorge allows player characters to test their skills at hunting Trolls while also investigating an unnatural occurrence that is linked to Fangorn.

The new update for LOTRO also introduces the Brown Lands, where the Rohirrim battle the new forces of Sauron and The Rushgore, where gamers can hunt for relics linked to both Rohan and Gondor while they also defeat bands of brigands.

The developers at Turbine have reported big increases in both revenue and player numbers after The Lord of the Rings Online has become free-to-play, and the new content is seen as a reward for the player base, designed to keep the fans engaged.

A bigger update for the MMO is planned for 2012, with mounted combat one of the major additions.
