A website in honor of Schiller

A German linguistics institute could enter the Guiness Book of Records, due to the fact that it has registered the longest hostname.

Dedicated promoting the German language and the 200th anniversary of the death of poet Friedrich Schiller, the domain Wiemenschlichmenschensindzeigtihrumgangmitdermuttersprachefrsch.de actually represents a quote from his works, which could be approximately be translated as "The way in which a person expresses itself in its native language shows its degree of humanity".

Up until now, the longest Internet hostname, containing 60 characters, belonged to the site of village from England, www.llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyll-llantysiliogogogoch.com. What's really amazing is that this is a real, working address and the site is thought of as an e-mail joke, which cannot be said about the much more serious German site.

Such a hostname can also be found in France, feery-lepremiersitecyberdocumentalistaumondedeplhistdelhumanite.fr, which, according to AFIC, the French domain-recording authority, has also been registered to a person of German origin.

www.thelongestdomainnameintheworldandthensomeandthensomemoreandmore.com is a domain specially created in order to get into the Guinness Book of Records. However, the people from Guinness had a different opinion regarding this type of attempts, and if you want to find out what they had to say about it, please visit the above mentioned address.
