The Linux Foundation has made available the results of an annual survey, Linux Adoption Trends 2012: A Survey of Enterprise End Users, shedding some light on the adoption rate of Linux operating systems and other issues.

The survey was conducted in partnership with Yeoman Technology Group and more than 1900 individual were inquired, which is 10% more than the previous survey.

The 2012 Enterprise Linux survey shows that veteran Linux users are on a rise, at the expense of other Windows and Unix operating systems.

Another important fact revealed is that even if the IT spendings remain rather low, users are installing more Linux distributions.

Eight out of ten respondents said that they have installed Linux servers in the past year and only 21.7% said that they were planning an increase in Windows servers.

Even more importantly, technical issues reported by Linux users have dropped by 40%,  from 20.3% in 2010 to 12.2% today.

According to The Linux Foundation, the survey was not intended to be an assessment of the overall penetration of Linux in the market, nor is it designed as a cross-platform study. That being said, the complete announcement and the rest of the data can be found here.
