Apple corrects misleading text in iPhone 5 pre-order process

Despite telling customers that “Your iPhone includes a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter” when they pre-ordered the new iPhone 5, Apple has clarified that it made a blunder and that the adapter is, in fact, not included in the box.

Used for connecting 30-pin accessories to devices featuring the Lightning connector, the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter is a standalone purchase when applying for an iPhone 5 purchase online.

Some customers learned this the hard way, and now they’ll have to apply for a standalone adapter that ships in October the earliest.

Apple’s web site initially said: “Your iPhone includes a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter for connecting 30-pin accessories to devices featuring the Lightning connector. Purchase this additional adapter to have a second adapter for your home or office.”

Cupertino now simply states, “Use this intelligent and ultra-compact adapter to connect your 30-pin accessories to devices featuring the Lightning connector.”

A customer has clarified the matter with an Apple specialist online, confirming that this was, indeed, a mistake.
