The Star Trek and Star Wars franchises have been battling it out on the video game market for quite some time with no definitive winner in sight. Ubisoft recently announced an agreement with Lucas Arts resulted in the birth of the next Star Wars title, suggestively called Lethal Alliance. Action will take place between the Revenge of the Sith prequel and the first movie to be released from the series, The
New Hope. The publisher expects simultaneous releases for the game on both PSP and DS handheld consoles, during the holiday season.
Twi'lek acrobat Rianna lends her loyalties to the Rebel Alliance as a skilled fighter. She is accompanied in her Imperial -fighting escapades by Zeeo, her defensive specialist robot. In relation to the franchise's saga, the game fits after the Revenge of the Sith with the ultimate goal being the theft of the Death Star's blueprints. The two will travel to several locations fans are already aware of, including the Death Star itself, the Skywalker home base Tatooine, and Alderaan, before its Death Star destruction. It wouldn't be a Star Wars game without notable character appearances. In Lethal Alliance you will meet Darth Vader, Boba Fett, Princess Leia, and Kyle Katarn.
Ubisoft split the game development between two of its studios, as Ubisoft's Montreal division handled the PSP game, while the publisher's Casablanca studio produced the DS version. It's refreshing to see the title takes advantage of each console's unique abilities. Some surprises are said to concern the multiplayer mode although further details were not revealed.
