Video game publisher Nintendo has announced that it will be launching the Nintendo Wii powered The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword on November 20 on the United States market, closing down the year of celebrations that marked the 25th anniversary of the franchise.

The game is being launched on the Wii home console, which has been lagging in sales lately, and Nintendo expects to see a boost in its sales numbers just in time for the crucial Christmas shopping period.

The developers of the new Legend of Zelda will be the first in the series to use the MotionPlus accessory for the Wii Remote in order to allow players a bigger degree of control over the actions of Link.

The Nunchuk will also be part of the control scheme and the team behind Skyward Sword promises better than ever combat and exploration mechanics.

The enemies that are part of the game world are also better than before, able to counterattack and evaluate the weaknesses of the players and they will need to use a full range of motion control moves to progress through the game.

The Skyward Sword plot will lead into that of Ocarina of Time and Nintendo hopes that this link will be enough to determine long term fans to pick up the new Legend of Zelda title.

Scott Moffitt, who is the executive producer working on Sales and Marketing at Nintendo of America, has stated, “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is the biggest game in the series yet. We've just scratched the surface of this massive experience, and we look forward to sharing additional details with fans as we approach the Nov. 20 launch.”

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword comes comparatively late in the life cycle of the Nintendo Wii and the company has not yet announced whether it has plans to also launch it on the Wii U, which should be available during 2012.
